If a taxpayer fails to pay taxes or does not file a tax return by the specified date, penalties and interest will be levied according to the law. However, one can apply to the commissioner for remission of such interests and penalties. The commissioner may waive all or part of the interest and penalty depending on the legitimacy of the evidence presented. Penalties and interests as a result of fraud are excluded from waiver consideration.
